It was a privilege and an honour to be at the Goodwood Revival Meeting and, together with Formula Junior owners Heinz Stege, Phoebe Rolt and Ian Scott, represent the Elva marque.

My appreciation extends to Susan and Robbie Mackenzie-Low, to Andy Briggs (and his 'pop' Ted) of A & K Racing Fabrications for all their efforts and enthusiasm. The support and interest of Steve Hudson and Claire Day from Hastings Direct Classic was wonderful, and resulted in a very special day for several ex. Elva folk (or Elva old boys!) at the circuit.

Visitors to our paddock area seemed almost endless, but of special mention was Peter Nott, Ken Sheppard, Charlie Toghill, Alan Jenner, Mick Moon, Tony Barnard, John Playfoot, Bob Curl, several of whom had sat infront of the TV cameras telling 'Elva' stories earlier in the week. Fellow Elva owner Stirling Moss came over to experience the Mk.II and most important of all, present 'young' Charlie Toghill with a bottle of Champagne on his 75th birthday. I think Charlie had a great day!

Ours had started with helping to heave out the Climax from the Lola Mk. 1 (prototype) to fit a new clutch and enable Derek Bell to race against us, part of the camaraderie which existed through the meeting, albeit that he later broke the gearbox!

Wonderful moments, but perhaps one of the most memorable will be the beaming faces of the guys who built 'works' Mk.II 100/20 some forty years ago, and who rushed back to the paddock afier Robbie had completed the race to share their delight in seeing 'their' car race at Goodwood once again. Their kind words and encouragement for all our efforts was worth a million Dollars - praise indeed so thank you guys!

So was it all a dream? I guess it must have been as the sun shone constantly and they even started the races with a Union flag.

I just hope I never wake up.

Some illustrious company on the 'Dream Grid' at Goodwood. There were approximately 50 outstanding cars and famous drivers.
