Once again we were privileged to be involved in yet another stunning Revival Meeting at the fabulous Goodwood motor circuit. The weather was marvellous, the girls were beautiful as always and the cars ... just amazing. Good to see so many Elva friends and enthusiasts and enjoy some wonderful stories from new contacts over the busy three days.

The ‘dummy’ show engines in the Elva Engineering van certainly had people talking including Trevor Carpenter who told amazing tales of his days in (UK) stock car racing when he used many power units including a Climax FWA unit but only once as the engine was banned for leaving everyone else in the dust cloud. He also used the I.O.E. conversions on the 100E engines and developed more power by making the engines run backwards to improve the breathing. Engines were built up on the kitchen table, often overnight, using every trick in and out the book to achieve more power.

It was particularly good to talk with Ding Boston about the O.U.M.F. (Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation) which was founded in 2005 with the aim of providing opportunities for young engineering students studying in Oxford to gain real practical experience of engineering, fabrication and competition support. With a blown head gasket on the Courier during qualifying, the students were put under pressure to get the car race ready, and their determined efforts were successful. The Elva-Climax Mk.IV owned by Simon Peach featured in the Lavant Cup while the Fordwater Trophy included the Ding Boston Courier and Mk.3 GT Courier coupe of Martin Greaves. A rather bigger Elva F/J turnout for the Chichester Cup included drivers Mark Woodhouse, B.J. Colaric, Heinz Stege, Roger Dexter, and Crispian Besley with Vernon Williamson in a Scorpion (Ford).

The final race was the Whitson Trophy which had some of the quickest cars, and the weekend ended on a particular high note due to the fantastic driving by Julian Bronson who took the chequered flag in his McLaren-Elva-Chevrolet M1B. Brilliant racing that should not be missed. Provisional dates for the 2010 Goodwood events have already been announced, so look forward to seeing you there. The Festival of Speed 2-4th July while the Revival is booked for 17-19th September 2010.
